AFA.2017.0113_Conservation, safeguarding and enhancement of the surroundings of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Cárquere - Parque do Carvalhal, Resende
Except for the structure in the western core area, no in situ structures were identified. The materials that have emerged are decontextualized so we can not say that we are facing a space of occupation as it was supposed to be. Or it may have been destroyed during the various interventions carried out in the Carvalhal Park. However, even traces of negative structures were not identified, so even this hypothesis is very remote. Everything thus points out that Roman and medieval occupation in this area was not prolonged by the zone now intervened, at least we did not find a record of it. If we really think that the Carvalhal presents itself as an area where the geological is on the surface, or very close, we quickly perceive the reason for the absence of archaeological realities in this zone, thus developing the settlement both Roman and medieval on the slopes in Around Carvalhal.
