AFA.2017.0109_Opening of EDP's Ditch, at António dos Santos nº5, Santarém
Of the archaeological remains, the most notorious, is undoubtedly the section of wall in the António dos Santos Avenue. The area that was abandoned was once occupied by a cellar that was demolished, with the intention of housing construction in the area. The wall is in a poor conservation state and degrades. Santarém, whose walls have ceased to cover 33 hectares (CARDOSO, Mário), has long been witnessing the disappearance of sections of walls and doors for the enlargement of the city and access roads. Its classification as National Monument (1917) did not prevent its continuous demolition. They remain, except in the zone of the Doors of the Sun; Some sections, such as this avenue.
